Electric Service & Meter Installation Guide

Customer Equipment

Motor Installations

Unless otherwise agreed to by an authorized MVEC representative prior to installation, all motor installations will be in accordance with MVEC’s Tariff Conditions, available at the Cooperative office.

Capacitors

When banks of capacitors are installed by the Member, MVEC may require the Member to provide facilities for automatically switching capacitors on and off with the load. The Cooperative should be consulted concerning the method of switching and protection.

Welders and Furnaces

The Cooperative shall be consulted in all cases concerning the electrical supply to electric welders and furnaces before installation of such equipment is made.

Water Heater Loads

Residential—Water heater loads are connected to the one service meter along with all other loads. Commercial–Consult the MVEC Business Office for information concerning the installation and rates.

Winter Heating

Residential—Space heating loads as well as all other loads are connected to the one service meter. Commercial–Consult the MVEC Business Office for information concerning the installation and rates.

Lighting

Very large single phase lighting loads may be served from more than one phase of a three phase service. The Cooperative should be consulted concerning these and other large single phase loads.

Energy Management

Magic Valley Electric Cooperative recommends that the Member who is contemplating the installation of demand or energy control equipment contact the Cooperative prior to installing such equipment.
